2019年，法國發生一樁罕見的訴訟案，被告是一隻公雞。一對從城市搬到鄉村居住的夫婦，控告鄰居家中一隻名為莫里斯的公雞，每日凌晨的啼叫聲讓他們無法入眠。這隻公雞輕易地得到十二萬人連署支持，最後地方法院判決公雞勝訴。2021年1月，法國參議院正式通過一條法令保護法國鄉村地區的「感官遺產」，包含各種聲音和味道例如公雞叫聲、蛙鳴、甚至牛糞味都受到法律保護。
